Roland’s hosts fund-raising supper for terminally ill mum

Roland’s hosts supper as part of fund-raising efforts to help a terminally ill mum.

Roland’s was privileged to host a supper for The Disney Dream, a special campaign which has raised more than £5,000 for a terminally ill mum from Keighley.

The Disney Dream was set up by staff members at Herbert Brown Jewellers in Keighley to enable their colleague Kirsty Deakin to take her four year old daughter Abby to Disneyland.

Kirsty, who is 25, was diagnosed with cancer at the start of this year.  After undergoing chemotherapy she was initially given the all-clear but was then told in August that her condition was terminal.

Kirsty and her fiancé Steven brought forward their wedding to October this year and now, thanks to the fund-raising efforts of her friends, she will be realising a dream and taking daughter Abby to Disneyland Paris in February.

Jo Harper, a friend and work colleague at Herbert Browns, was one of the organisers of the event at Roland’s on Saturday, November 12.

Jo said: “We’ve all been working together to raise money for Kirsty and the event at Roland’s was a brilliant culmination of all our efforts.

“We had a raffle draw, a live band and the supper Roland did for us was amazing.  Everyone was so impressed and he did a really fantastic job.

“Kirsty was really overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.”
